Joe Ribeiro

Background

Joe was appointed Chief of Police in Manitou Springs in May of 2012. Since his appointment, Joe has worked diligently to develop regional partnerships and to improve Manitou Springs’ emergency preparedness. Prior to joining the MSPD, Joe served as a Commander with the Vail Police Department for five years and led the Vail Public Safety Communications Center. Joe retired as a Lieutenant from the Norfolk VA Police Department in 2006 after 23 years of service. Assignments while at Norfolk included the Strategic Management Division, Emergency Response Team (SWAT), Vice & Narcotics, K-9, and Uniformed Patrol. He was a charter member of the Virginia State Interoperability Executive Committee and served as the Chairman of the Hampton Roads regional Law Enforcement Information Exchange Steering Committee.

Education

Joe has a B.A in Public Administration from Saint Leo University and a M.S. in Management Information Systems from the University of Virginia.
