El Paso-Teller County E9-1-1 Enabling Public to add Cell Phone numbers to Emergency Notification System!
Colorado
Springs, Colorado, March 13, 2007: El Paso-Teller County E9-1-1, the management facility
for the (10) 9-1-1 communications centers within both counties, has taken a yet
another step to further protect and better communicate with the citizens of El
Paso and Teller counties through the use of emergency notification technology
that automatically alerts neighborhoods, businesses and first responders in
times of crisis. Communicator! NXT and GeoCast Web from
DCC, Dialogic Communications Corporation, were installed in September. This
system geographically notifies residents and businesses with critical, event
specific messages. Now the public can be notified on their cell phone as well their
home phone.
By going to our website, elpasoteller911.org, the
public may enter up to 2 cell phone numbers to be called during a notification
that affects their home address. A business owner may enter 2 cell phone
numbers also so they are notified of an event affecting their business address.
This is an especially important step for
people that do not have a landline telephone at their homes. The procedure is
very simple:

If you are ever contacted by the EWS,
Emergency Notification System, it is because there is an emergency event
imminent in your geographical location. The message will start off by saying “This
is an important message from 9-1-1, please press 1 to
hear this message”. Please take the time
to listen to these messages. It could be the difference between life and death.
