History & Funding

Funding for the operation of the Emergency Telephone System comes from the surcharge affixed to each telephone line located in the 2 counties. Prior to September 1 of each year, the Authority is required by Colorado State Statute to set the tariff for the coming year. The 1997 legislature changed the statute to provide for collection of both wireline and wireless surcharge. Since the creation of the El Paso-Teller County 911 Authority Board, the tariff had remained at $0.50 cents per month until the year 2004 when it was raised to $0.70 per month.
